Directions to Malheur Field Station
In route to MFS, the majority of travelers choose to pass through the town of Burns for gas and some shopping. From there, take Highway 78 east out of Burns. If you turn left out of the Safeway parking lot and go straight at the next stoplight you will be on Highway 78 heading towards Winnemucca, NV.
(Watch for the “Malheur National Wildlife Refuge” sign.)
After approximately two miles, look for a small crossroads and turn right onto Hwy 205 to Frenchglenn. Noting mile markers, travel south on Hwy 205 for just over 23 miles, then turn left (east) onto Sodhouse Lane.
(We are being so specific here because navigation systems don’t work well in this area.)
Proceed 3 miles and turn right (south) onto a gravel road at the MFS sign and mailbox. MFS is situated between two buttes about 1 mile down the gravel road. Take the second driveway on the right and it will lead you directly to the office. Please drive slowly and watch out for children and wildlife.
